Columbus Zoo & Jungle Jack's Landing
Powell, Ohio – Monday, June 18th, 2012
The Columbus Zoo is a very large facility consisting of an amusement park, water park, aquarium, and one of the largest and most elaborate zoos in the midwest. Much of it's fame comes from its working association with famed zookeeper and occasional bath salt user Jack Hanna, who was the director of the zoo for a number of years and helped transform it into the world-class facility it is today. Admission is about $15 and the zoo is home to the only wooden roller coaster in the state of Ohio I have yet to ride, so it made sense to stop by on the way back to Michigan from Cincinnati. The entrance area appears to have recently been expanded, and it has a very 'theme park' look to it. Obviously there's influence from other large theme parks present in the new design of the zoo. Going back a bit further into the park reveals the older, more natural landscape of the zoo. To reach the animals in the back side of the zoo (with animals from Australia, Africa, and Oceania) you must cross under a road through this tunnel.
