Cyclops (Mt. Olympus)
(The original development updates for this project are reposted below. Download link at bottom of page.)
Cyclops, a lateral-savvy coaster created by Custom Coasters International, is now being recreated for your NoLimits Roller Coaster Simulation Program by Jeremy Thompson!
11/28/05 Cyclops is a bit more of a challenge layout-wise than Zeus, as it contains many small turns and hills in a layout that is classified as out-and-back, twister, and terrain all at once. Despite it’s short ride time, the layout is very confusing, and if built by how many degrees a turn appears to be turning, it’ll end up no where near where it should. After many drafts of trying to get the layout to simply match up, I think I’ve finally got it. There still needs to be some adjusting on the hills, but speeds match up well and the ride is currently within 50 ft. of the actual length.
12/4/05 The last turns are still way off (I’d rather not deal with more vertices on those large turns than before I have to), but I’m getting more and more satisfied with the rest of the track. I’m now within 25 ft. of the real thing, but that could mean nothing. So as not to disappoint Phyter, I’m getting the g’s up to -1 on the main drop. They’re currently up to a max of -.9 vertical g-forces. The shaping of that drop is going to be hard.
12/19/05 I added some quick terrain to gauge how well the track fits. I discovered that the second drop needed to be lowered. Overall I’m still a bit dissatisfied with the entire first half of the ride, but it’s much better than it was before.
1/20/06 Track and terrain is done, and the most of basic auto-supports are in place.
2/14/06 Custom supporting is coming along nicely, and includes an accurate representation of the structure of Zeus. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day, everyone!
3/11/06 All internal supports have been completed on Cyclops. The support work left to do is primarily adding wide-supports, as well as customizing the ledgers and adding extras, such as Trans-track catwalks. (Yes, I did just make that word up.)
4/01/06 Nearly all supports are done, the environment is in place, the orange rocks that line the bottom of the big drop are in place, and work is progressing on the station. Left to do is finish adding extras (pathways, signs, etc.) and add flora.
6/21/06 Everything is complete and ready to be uploaded for the first day of summer. Enjoy these final screenshots.
6/26/06 Cyclops is ready to be challenged, only on the CoasterSims track exchange. Enjoy!
