Zeus (Mt. Olympus)
(The original development updates for this project are reposted below. Download link at bottom of page.)
Zeus, an out-and-back wooden coaster created by Custom Coasters International, is now being recreated for your NoLimits Roller Coaster Simulation Program by Jeremy Thompson!
11/28/05 Zeus is a bit more of a challenge pacing-wise than Cyclops, as the double dip seems too long, the final hills seem too fast, and I can’t get the speeds to match up at given hills. The ride is currently about 250 ft. short of the real thing, which is a bit of a problem. The terrain setting of Zeus makes it hard to compare the heights and lengths of it’s hills.
12/04/05 Zeus is shaping up nicely, and I discovered a lot of my woes with length dissappeared when I checked the Mt. Olympus site and found out they post Zeus’ length as 2700′, which now brings my track in around 25′ of the real thing. Like Cyclops, the far turn is still formless due to the small vertex count… It’ll be the last bit of track I perfect. Realisticly, I hope to have the trackwork for both done by the New Year. Beyond that, I’m not guessing.
12/19/05 Work continues on Zeus. I’d say it’s a bit ahead of Cyclops in terms of progress, but I’m still trying to get some of the terrain aspects to work right. The terraforming may or may not be temporary, as I’m learning a few things about just how far some of those dips in the hills should go now that I have something to reference for the track.
1/20/06 Track and Terrain are fully completed. The auto-supporting may need to be re-done, depending if there should be any further modifications to terrain.
2/14/06 Supporting continues with the structures of Cyclops and Hades firmly in place to serve as elaborate scenery items. Framerates are consistantly staying above 29 in Zeus, helped in part by my optimization and re-alignment of supports. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! And thanks for looking!
3/16/06 Most of the internal supports are done. I am now looking forward to start adding the wide supports and planning the 3ds and environmental extras.
4/01/06 Zeus has nearly all custom supports in place. The environment will still be the night sky, but I’m using the daylight environment from Cyclops to make the screen shots easier to see. Station, pathways, signs, and plant life have yet to be completed.
7/04/06 The ride is basically done, with the exception of fences and a few other extras.
7/10/06 Zeus is now available on the CoasterSims track exchange.
