Disney's Animal Kingdom - Photo Journal
Lake Buena Vista, Florida – November 14th & November 18th, 2012
If this were the old Busch Gardens Rhino Rally, this sign would be bad news. On Kilimanjaro Safaris, however, it's just a red herring. Elephant up-close Elephant on the move. Black rhinoceros Rhinoceros retreating from the safari truck. Cheetah... with a lot of zoom. The lions were out today, which apparently doesn't always happen. Supposedly these rocks are refrigerated to encourage the lions to hang out in the open viewing areas during the whole afternoon. Addaxs and Ostriches White Rhinoceros And, of course, zebras. I've heard these zebra have replaced the old "poacher" storyline that used to come at the end of the Kilimanjaro Safaris. Personally I think it's an improvement, but it raises two questions: One, why were zebras featured before in the savannah section? Two, were zebras really the best animal they could think of to end the whole safari with? Warden post, at the end of the safari. Back from the safari, we have a choice of where to go next. The Pangani Forest Exploration Trail is a nice post-script to the Kilimanjaro Safaris. Trail map with a few reminders. (Concrete) termite mound Black-and-white colobus monkey Black-and-white colobus monkey Okapi The okapi is a relative of the giraffe. It's great to see that Disney hasn't yet caved to some of the southern bible belt pressure yet. Resting area along the exploration trail. Disney's ghost researchers work here. Lots of knick-knacks both living and dead to be found here. "The only good arachnid is a dead arachnid..." African Bullfrog Naked mole rats Spiny-tailed lizard Insert Dung beetle joke.
