Chicago
Illinois, U.S.A. – Thursday, June 14th, 2012
Green roof Helicopter flyby John Hancock Tower, now only the 4th tallest building in Chicago The newest attraction on the Skydeck, The Ledge. Crowding around The Ledge I've done these things before, but it still gets me a little bit every time. That's a long way down Dad standing over the ledge More congestion Alright, time to go back down 103 stories up... Hmm... Last bit of public art in the Willis Tower lobby Dinner at Flaco's Tacos, a cheap but good Mexican counter-service restaurant. We both ordered the set of three mini-burritos, which was literally perfect. Final event for the evening: The Jazz Showcase This is one of Chicago's more venerated jazz clubs. "Since 1947" Lots of big names in jazz have played here. The night before I went to X-Flight's passholder preview I saw saxophonist Benny Golson playing with the DePaul University jazz band. Tonight's gig is a little more obscure and modern: the Jeremy Pelt quintet. Standing is Jeremy Pelt... ...and the rest of his quintet.
