DelGrosso's Amusement Park - Photo Journal
Tipton, Pennsylvania – Thursday, July 12th, 2012
DelGrosso's star attraction, the Crazy Mouse. Popular with the kids, but not nearly as remarkable as either of Lakemont Park's woodies. Okay DelGrosso's I really want to like you, but... this was the former site of your Space Odyssey, an indoor caterpillar with music and special effects. By far the most unique ride at the park, and the only one I'd be willing to pay to ride a second time just for how much fun it was. While I don't know what will replace it just yet, I'd be very surprised if it matches the level of excitement that the Space Odyssey could generate. Despite the history of the amusement park, few of the rides here couldn't also be found at a traveling fairground. So to lose the one attraction that really did set them apart was a huge mistake in my estimation, as it has unfortunately has lost a lot of the park's appeal for out-of-town coaster weirdos like me. With Space Odyssey out of the picture, I only bought tickets for two rides, the first being the Crazy Mouse. Crazy Mouse, still sporting the X color scheme. Wouldn't it look rad if DelGrosso's also updated their coaster to blood red track and charcoal grey supports? Click to view the Crazy Mouse POV I paid $2.00 to get for you. 🙂 Crazy Mouse is Crazy, as the meme goes. X-Scream drop tower, the other ride I'd pay for since it wasn't here last time and it looked kinda fun. The X-Scream Tower takes 4 tickets to ride, each ticket is 50¢. On the way up the 140' tower the young man next to me, having been on it several times before, offered several instructions for how I could overcome my debilitating fear of the drop, such as closing my eyes and hanging on tight. DelGrosso's is a pleasant park, there just isn't much of anything here that will impress anyone who's been to anyplace larger than a state fair. One meal and two rides later and I'm ready to complete the drive to the FREDx event in Sunbury. The sauce is still this park's best claim to fame. If only it wasn't also their only claim to fame (now that the Space Odyssey is gone...) The water park is popular, and if you look closely you can see that the white slide on the left has an uphill section that appears to be powered by nothing other than momentum, which is also kinda cool. Maybe next time. Or maybe not. Please, I'd love to visit again, just add something that will give me a reason to!
