Aug. 9 – Another two-part update, this time from Universal Studios Singapore… my first experience at a “studios” park by Universal. This is the final chapter of the Malaysia and Singapore story from 2011, which I wanted to finish before getting up early tomorrow on my way to Steel Curtain.

Jul. 26 – As a city, Singapore is quite normal. As a concept existing in the 21st century, Singapore is quite strange. I spent a brief time there in 2011 and this is my story from that experience.

Jul. 2 – Genting Highlands is among one of the more strange yet still bad parks I’ve been to. It’s also the first (but not last) ex-park from my Asia trip, having since been replaced by the 20th Century Fox Theme Park (that itself is likely to be replaced by something yet-to-be-determined before it even has a chance to open).

Anyway, I’m pleased with the pace of updates over the past few weeks, although I expect it to slow for a little while. This is in large part because I’m soon embarking on a week-and-a-half long road trip through New England for my first time, finally checking some big names off my list like Superman: The Ride and Boulder Dash. Might have something to say about those in the future, too. Who knows?

Jun. 28 – Following my quick detour to the present day, it’s back into the time machine for today’s update, heading all the way to Malaysia. This was my first time in a majority-Muslim country, as well as my first (and still only) time visiting a country in the tropics. Plus, Supersonic Odyssey has got a lot of crazy going on!

Jun. 22 – A big part of what prompted me to write about what was otherwise a very quick trip to Oregon was the park in today’s update. I realized that not only would I have to add it to my list of Essential & Very Good Parks, but that it was the first time since 2012 that I visited a park on that list for the first time. Being both quite good and quite obscure is an easy way to get me to write about something, so here it is: Enchanted Forest.

Jun. 15 – If you follow me on Twitter, you might be aware that I did a weekend trip to Portland, Oregon a short time ago. This is actually the first of several trips I’ll be making this summer to do roller coasters, probably the most I’ve done since 2011. And I realized it didn’t make much sense for me to be having all these adventures and only write about adventures that happened eight years ago, so why don’t I try to continue the roll I’ve been on recently and alternate between old 2011 and new 2019 reports? So here’s the first in another series to a city I greatly enjoyed: Portland, with Oaks Amusement Park. (Don’t worry, Enchanted Forest is coming soon, followed quickly by the next series from 2011, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.)

May 25 – On May 25th, 2009, I purchased the domain name for rollercoasterphilosophy.com. And now, 10 years later… I’m presenting a photo report from a trip I did only two years after that, more than eight years ago now. Go figure. Still, I couldn’t let the date go by without notice and celebration, so what better way to celebrate 10 years than reading a report that features a 10 Inversion Roller Coaster?

May 18 – I’ve now covered five of the six Disney resorts for this website with Hong Kong Disneyland, the smallest of the chain but also kind of a guilty favorite. This report proved to be a bit unwieldy as a single page so I broke it apart into two parts. Next, onward into mainland China!

May 3 – The five-month long journey across Asia continues with a park that is quite unlike any other Asian theme park: Ocean Park Hong Kong. And not just because it’s the only park in recent history to have beaten a Disney castle park that shares the same home turf.

Apr. 23 – I finally did it. Part 1 of XX from my epic 2011 Asia trip that would encompass 50 parks and 6 countries is finally online, about 8 years after the fact. The challenge was that I would have to begin this journal series in Hong Kong where I saw and did so much over four months that just making that first update would be a Herculean task. This update is so big it’s really five pages in one, so get nice and cozy before digging in.

Yes, I’m aware it’s ancient history and no, there’s no roller coasters in it (Ocean Park & Hong Kong Disneyland will be the next couple updates), so I’m pretty much just writing this for my own memories and satisfaction at this point. Still, it’s a weight off my shoulders to have completed this first big step. It will still be quite a while before I’ve finished with this series, but I’m setting a goal to get the final entry completed before a decade has passed: June 28th, 2021. Feels so far away, yet compared to my current output I’ll be working overtime.
